Bringing The Best of Italy To Your Door

Ca Ronesca

At the far eastern end of the region, in the province of Gorizia and close to the border with Slovenia, Collio is a production area for quality wines which were among the first in Italy to be granted Denominazione d’origine Controllata (controlled place of origin) in 1968. From the hills of San Floriano and Oslavia above Gorizia, to those of Ruttars, Lonzano and Vencò on the banks of the Judrio, which once formed the border between Italy and Austria, there is a series of gentle hills dotted with small villages, and vineyards extending over approximately 1,600 hectares. This hilly area – perfect for relaxing holidays surrounded by greenery also thanks to its very good farmhouse accommodation – develops almost uninterruptedly along an ideal line from east to west, with large areas exposed to the south, highly suitable for excellent viticulture. Since remote times this situation has been favourable for growing vines, which were introduced before Roman times. A land of great white wines, Collio produces prevalently Pinot, Friuli Tocai, Sauvignon and the renowned DOC Collio Bianco blend. Best among the red wines are Collio Rosso, Cabernet, and Merlot.
